R.J. Davis to return to UNC for senior season

The offseason for the UNC basketball program has been a rocky one so far with four players entering the transfer portal. But this week, the program got some good news with Armando Bacot announcing he was returning for a fifth and final year in Chapel Hill.

And on Friday, point guard R.J. Davis announced he will return to UNC for his senior season.

Davis took to Twitter to announce that he is coming back, giving the Tar Heels two starters back for next season. The duo have been in UNC’s starting lineup together for the past three seasons and the 2023-24 season will be the fourth.

The New York native averaged 16.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists for the Tar Heels last season, a career year for the point guard. Davis shot 43.8 percent from the field and shot 36.2 percent from the three-point line.

With Davis’ decision, UNC now awaits what fellow guard Caleb Love will do with his future. All signs point to Love leaving UNC after three years, opening the door for someone like Seth Trimble or freshman Simeon Wilcher earning some more playing time next season.
