R. Kelly is begging a judge to life his travel restrictions and allow him to fly to Dubai and perform a few concerts in the middle of his criminal case.

The motion was filed in Cook Count Circuit Court, and claims Kelly is contracted to perform 3-5 shows in the United Arab Emirates between April 17 – 19.

The filing notes that Kelly agreed to the deal before he was arrested, so he feels he should be allowed to satisfy the professional obligation. He also claims to have a meeting set up with members of the Royal family.

Kelly insists he is not a flight risk, and points out that he did not even take off when he knew he was being investigated. He explains that he needs to generate income while his music has been pulled from streaming services and his U.S. concerts have been canceled. Traveling to Dubai and performing will help earn money to “pay his day to day living expenses.”

As we reported, people involved in the ongoing investigation into Kelly are worried he will flee to avoid criminal prosecution if he’s allowed to leave the country.

Kelly claims he will return as soon as his professional obligations are satisfied. The motion has not yet been ruled on.
