PEORIA – The two R.P. Home & Harvest stores in the Peoria area will soon have a new name.

Runnings, a Minnesota-based company, has purchased the 22 stores in the R.P. Home & Harvest chain along with its distribution center. Stores, including one in Pekin and one in Washington, will be rebranded after the deal closes in June.

Runnings is a privately held retailer that sells pet supplies, sporting goods — including hunting and fishing equipment, clothing and footwear — lawn and garden supplies, housewares, tools, farm supplies, toys, and outdoor equipment. With 58 stores and 2,700 employees in eight states, the company was founded in 1947 and is owned by the Dennis and Adele Reed family.

Once the deal closes, Runnings will have 80 stores in 12 states, from New York to Montana.

This is not the first time the Peoria-area stores have been rebranded. The store in Washington was originally a Big R Store, and later became Stock + Field. In 2021, both the Pekin and Washington stores were saved from closure when they were purchased by R.P. Lumber Co.
