R.U.O.K. program gives support to Evanston seniors living alone

Evanston’s police and fire departments are teaming up to provide senior citizens living alone in the city peace of mind through its new R. U. O.K program.

The program would provide regular check ins for seniors living alone with a weekly phone call from an Evanston Police Department representative. The calls would give seniors the chance to let police know if they are in need of assistance. The police representative will assess the situation over the phone and dispatch fire department personnel if necessary.

Seniors can also use the calls to request help signing up for social services through the Evanston Police Department’s Public Relations Unit.

To sign up, packets are available in-person and can be submitted at the following locations:

  • Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Ave.

  • Fleetwood Jourdain Community Center, 1655 Foster St.

  • Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington Ave.

  • Evanston Police Department, 1454 Elmwood Ave.

Seniors can also call 847-866-5020 to register.
