Raab says 'shenanigans' in parliament hindering Brexit, Hammond confident of blocking no-deal

Johnson implicitly warned lawmakers on Monday (September 2) that he would seek an election if they tied his hands on Brexit, ruling out a further delay to Britain's departure from the European Union.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said "shenanigans" in parliament were holding the country back.

Former British finance minister Philip Hammond said he was confident that an alliance of opposition parties and rebel Conservative lawmakers will have the numbers to defeat Johnson's government on Brexit.

With 59 days to go, an alliance of opposition lawmakers and rebels in Johnson's Conservative Party will use parliament's first day back from its summer break to launch their attempt to block a no-deal exit.

The group will put forward a vote on Tuesday (September 3) on whether to seize control of the parliamentary agenda the following day to try to pass legislation that would force Johnson to seek a three-month delay to Britain's EU exit.
