Rachel Thomas to speak at sex trafficking awareness event Feb. 1

Jan. 29—BEMIDJI — Rachel Thomas will give her presentation, "The Cool Aunt: Sex Trafficking Awareness," at a sex trafficking awareness event at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, in the Bemidji High School auditorium.

During the presentation, participants will learn the seven risk factors that lead to sex trafficking and get ongoing resources to avoid and overcome those risks, a release said.

Thomas is a UCLA graduate, a presidential appointee to the United States Advisory Council on Human Trafficking and a personal survivor of human trafficking.

"Since founding Sowers Education Group in 2012, Rachel has reached over 150,000 live audience members and millions more through numerous media outlets including CNN, HLN, The T.D. Jakes Show, The New York Times Upfront Magazine, and ABC's Newsmakers," the release said.
