🌱 Racing Back At Laurel Park? + City To Honor Fallen Veterans

Up and at 'em, Laurel! Let's get you all caught up to start this Tuesday, December 14 off on an informed note. Here's everything happening today in town.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny. High: 55 Low: 31.

Here are the top three stories today in Laurel:

  1. Racing is scheduled to return to Laurel Park on Thursday with a nine-race card and plenty of big fields, but it is up to the Maryland Racing Commission to decide if that card will take place. The Commission will hold a virtual meeting this afternoon to assess efforts to fix the troubled racetrack and determine whether to permit racing to move forward. Laurel Park has not had races in December as of yet. (theracingbiz.com)

  2. In the City of Bowie, which is a next door neighbor to Laurel, Christmas decorations for houses is a year-round obsession for a 19-year-old in his last year of college. Drive down Harness Way in Bowie and park your car at the end of the cul-de-sac, then turn off the headlights and listen to the 89.7 FM to experience the full show that Hunter Pugh designed. (WTOP)

  3. Mayor Craig A. Moe and the Laurel City Council are partnering with Wreaths Across America and Ivy Hill Cemetery to broadcast an outdoor ceremony LIVE outside the Municipal Center at 8103 Sandy Spring Road at 11:00 a.m. Dec. 18 via the City of Laurel-Government Facebook page to honor fallen military veterans. After the ceremony, volunteers and guests will walk across the street to Ivy Hill Cemetery to place wreaths on the graves of the fallen military veterans there. (City of Laurel)
