Racing roundup: Curtis Gerry high-gears to first win of the season at Oxford Plains Speedway

May 17—Curtis Gerry made it four winners in four Super Late Model features so far this season at Oxford Plains Speedway. Gerry, the 2017 Oxford 250 champ and 2019 SLM season champion at Oxford Plains, earned his first win of the season Saturday in Oxford Championship Series action.

Gerry topped a podium that featured Max Cookson — the SLM rookie who won his division debut on opening day this season — and two-time defending SLM division champion Dave Farrington Jr.

Gerry was one of many first-time 2022 winners during Saturday's races.

Nick Moulton took first in the Limiteds division, beating Chris Smith, who has now finished on the podium in each of the four features this season, including a win last week.

Joey Israelson finally broke through in Street Stocks after placing second in the season opener and fourth the following week.

Spencer Barth (Mad Bombers) and Evan Roy (Rookies) also captured their first checkered flags of the season.

Charlie Young (Thunder Stocks) and Eric Hodgkins (Figure-8s) were repeat winners in their respective divisions.

A week after visiting Oxford Plains, the Pro All Stars Series SLMs and Mods were set to compete at White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, New Hampshire, on Sunday but Mother Nature had other ideas.

The event was postponed due to inclement weather, and the PASS website said the series is attempting to reschedule the races. Sunday's event was also scheduled to include the series debut of the New England Supermodified Series (NESS) division, which already had its originally scheduled debut at Oxford Plains on May 7 canceled because of engine part supply issues.

That series' next scheduled event — and its possible inaugural race — is June 10 at Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, Vermont.

Wiscasset Speedway's Group 2 completed its second session of the season Saturday, with a 75-lap Mini Stock Mayhem special event joining the slate.

Zach Audet finished on top in the Mini Stock Mayhem feature, earning the $2,000 winner's check.

Josh St. Clair (Strictly Streets) and Ryan Ripley (Modifieds) were repeat winners from Group 2's season opener two weeks ago. It was St. Clair's fourth feature — across two divisions — in four weeks this season.

Series rookie Jet Decker held off St. Clair and Will Collins to win his first Late Model Sportsman feature in just his second start in the division.

Wiscasset's Group 1 is back in action this Saturday, along with the first enduro — scheduled for 100 laps — of the season.
