Radio Liberty journalist injured by Russian shelling near frontline Robotyne

A Radio Liberty journalist, Dmytro Yevchyn, was injured by Russian shelling while filming a TV story near the frontline town of Robotyne in Zaporizhzhya Oblast, the U.S.-funded news outlet Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported on Jan. 17.

The film crew, consisting of the journalist and a cameraman, came under enemy artillery fire. Yevchyn received a shrapnel wound in the leg, was given first aid, and evacuated to a neighboring village. He was later transported to the administrative center of Zaporizhzhya.

Yevchyn has since undergone surgery and is in intensive care, according to RFE/RL.

The journalist has been working for RFE/RL’s Krym.Realii project since 2018.

Since the beginning of Russia’s war against Ukraine in 2014, 75 journalists have lost their lives in, the Institute of Mass Information (IMI) reported on Nov. 2.
