Raiders TE Darren Waller celebrates three years clean and sober

This time last year, the world was learning about the inspiring story of Darren Waller. He laid bare his tale of nearly destroying himself and his NFL with addiction along with his road back from it. Wednesday was a banner day on that road as Waller celebrated the third anniversary of being clean and sober.

The wake-up call for Waller came with an NFL suspension for the entire 2017 season. After that, he immersed himself in his music and football and turned his life around.

The following year, he was placed on the Ravens’ practice squad most of the season, before the Raiders plucked him out of obscurity and he caught six passes over the final four games.

Things moved quickly from there as he was named the Raiders starter prior to last season. By midseason, he was showing himself to be one of the best tight ends in the league and was signed to a long term extension. He finished the season with 90 catches for 1,150 yards — both second behind only All-Pro Travis Kelce.

He’s still making his music, having released his fourth video recently, and working on his craft as a football player as he looks to continue writing his success story. Congrats to Darren for being an inspiration to millions.
