When Action News Jax reached out to the city for comment, we learned that “The City of Jacksonville does not have the authority to deny a road closure due to railroad crossing repair work. In fact, the railroad companies grant permission to the city to allow roadways to cross over railroad tracks.”

The City of Jacksonville also mentioned that it is working with FEC Railroad to reduce delays caused by the closure. Signs have been put up to notify and reroute drivers. Traffic signal timing patterns are also being changed to handle the increased demand. Law enforcement will remain in the area to ease traffic flow until the crossing work is done.
