Railroad Heritage Center to run its model train Polar Express

Nov. 16—Since 2019 the Railroad Heritage Center of Palestine has been running its Polar Express model train to coincide with the Texas State Railroads Polar Express. This year's Polar Express sets out for its first Christmas adventure at 6 p.m. Friday Nov. 17.

The Railroad Heritage Center is hard at work getting everything set in place for this years display for visitors to enjoy.

"Everything should be completed and operational by Friday," said John Price, curator of the Railroad Heritage Center.

The museum's Polar Express model is designed to be viewed through large windows on the North side of the center as the train makes its way around the tracks.

"It is activated with a push button on the outside of the building and runs about five minutes per activation," Price said.

The Railroad Heritage Center of Palestine, the base of operations of the Texas State Railroad Society, is the official keeper of Palestine's history with the railroad. The center features a massive HO-style model train exhibit. The Texas State Railroad Society pursued and received the display from the family of Paul and Maria Domis of Dallas, and is rich in detail with miniature buildings, people and landscape. The display, combined with the wealth of other information available at the center, is truly worth a visit.

The Railroad Heritage Center is open from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and is located at 808 W. Oak Street in Palestine.
