Railroad tie fire extinguished in Fort Smith

Firefighters battled a railroad tie fire Sunday in Fort Smith.

The fire was about 5 p.m. near S. E. Street near Hope Campus.

A brush fire spread to railroad ties and burned along the railroad tracks., fire officials said.

The cause remained under investigation Sunday night, said fire Capt. Gabe Flanagan.

Piles of ties burned in the fire. Firefighters responded and used an aerial ladder from a firetruck to spray the blaze. No injuries were reported.
