Rain, high winds affecting Akron area Wednesday morning

Rain and strong winds are in the forecast for the Greater Akron area Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, westerly wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour are possible Wednesday for much of northern Ohio behind a strong cold front.

The temperature at Akron Fulton International Airport around 8:30 a.m. was 56 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the National Weather Service. But the temperature is expected to drop throughout the day Wednesday, getting as low as 33 degrees by 4 p.m.

The weather service said Wednesday would be breezy, with a west wind of 17 to 20 miles per hour, and gusts as high as 37 miles per hour.

Wednesday's forecast includes showers mainly before 10 a.m., with new precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Wednesday night's forecast is mostly cloudy, with a low around 24 and a west wind of 13 to 16 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 28 miles per hour.

Thursday will be colder, with a high near 37, although mostly sunny. Thursday night's low is around 25, and mostly clear.

The temperatures are expected to warm by Friday, with a high near 51, and mostly sunny. Temperatures are forecast in the 40s and 50s through the weekend.
