Rain returns Wednesday amid ongoing outages, storm cleanup

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Rain returned to the Bay Area Wednesday as thousands of people across the region remain in the dark following power outages from Sunday’s storm. While Wednesday’s showers are expected to be scattered, schools and parks in parts of the Bay Area were closed Wednesday as recovery from the powerful weekend storm continues.

Storm related closures

In San Mateo County, Memorial, Pescadero Sam McDonalds parks remain closed as staff continue to clear debris and downed trees.

In Lafayette, Solano Drive at Hamlin Road will be closed for an extended amount of time due to a tree down on the live wires. Police are on the scene and PG&E is en route, according to Lafayette PD. The closure could last one to two hours, police said.

In the North Bay, Muir Woods will remain closed through Wednesday to allow staff time to fix minor damage around the park, according to the National Park Service.

Bay Area school closures

In Sonoma County, several school districts have announced closures for Wednesday, including:

  • Dunham: All schools

  • Harmony Union: Harmony Elementary, Salmon Creek School

  • Horicon: All schools

  • Kashia: All schools

  • Oak Grove Union: Oak Grove Elementary

On Thursday, West Side Elementary School and Kashia Elementary School remained closed.

In the East Bay, a campus-wide power outage at Cal State East Bay led to classes being held remotely on Wednesday.

As of Wednesday night, power in 18 of 19 campus buildings has been restored, Cal State East Bay announced. In-person classes are set to resume on Thursday.

PG&E outage numbers

Across the Bay Area, thousands of PG&E customers remain without power Wednesday. As of 10 p.m., 15,194 customers are without power, according to PG&E. Earlier Wednesday morning around 8 a.m., 35,551 customers were without power.

  • Peninsula: 1,525

  • North Bay: 9,544

  • East Bay: 185

  • South Bay: 3,710

Fallen tree destroys Napa home

A family in Napa is grateful to be alive after a tree crashed down on their home during Sunday’s storm. The tree nearly hit a child, but thankfully nobody got hurt. KRON4’s Sara Stinson has the report.
