Rain showers in southeast Michigan bring minor flooding, over 3,600 power outages

Showers throughout southeast Michigan have resulted in power outages for numerous residents and triggered minor flooding in certain areas.

As of 12 p.m. Tuesday, DTE's outage map shows over 1,300 customers are without power, while Consumers Energy's map shows over 2,300 customers reported power outages.

Despite the rain, highs for Tuesday are right around 70 degrees. The storm is expected to subside tonight, after 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in White Lake.

"In terms of any severe weather like wind or hail, we're not really expecting that, it's just going to be on and off showers like what we are seeing right now," said meteorologist Megan Varcie of the agency's White Lake Township office. "There's some potential that we can see clearing by this evening."

Across metro Detroit, most cities saw rain accumulation between 1 and 1.5 inches, while a few local areas farther west reported about 2 to 3 inches, according to NWS.

Sunny, dry weather will resume Wednesday, as temperatures are expected to be in the upper 70s, lower 80s. The dry weather finally will make for a chance to view the Perseid meteor showers, which happen every August and are considered some of the best celestial events of the year.

While another chance for heavy rain and thunderstorms is expected Thursday, with rainfall amounts between half an inch to an inch, Friday and the weekend will be dry.
