Rain and snow impacts southern half of St. Louis region Monday

St. Louis weather from meteorologist Angela Hutti:

ST. LOUIS – There has been a bit of a shift south in the storm system for Monday, but I’m still watching for an active day of weather for areas along and south of Interstate 44 in Missouri and south of I-64 in Illinois.

Rain and wet snow will move towards our southwest communities, Rolla, Salem, and Bunker, Missouri, around sunrise Monday and try to spread northeast from there through the morning. However, the system is going to spread itself out more west to east, keeping the bulk of the precipitation south of the St. Louis region.

Still, snow will be possible across the southern half of the St. Louis region Monday morning and afternoon before the storm pulls away. Especially where we see a faster kickover to all snow in the higher elevations of the Ozarks, that’s where a narrow band of snow accumulations will set up. Think along and south of the Cuba, Missouri, to Festus to Sparta, Illinois line; there could be anywhere from sloppy dusting to up to two inches of wet snow.

Expect highs in the upper 30s on Monday farther south and into the low 40s farther north. Out-of-door temps Tuesday will be around 30.

Tuesday will also be sunny and warmer, with highs around 50. Daytime hours look nice for Valentine’s Day Wednesday; highs are in the mid-50s, but some spot showers are possible Wednesday evening and night. It’s going to be partly cloudy and still mild Thursday, with highs in the 50s.
