When will it rain on New Year's Eve in Louisville? Some showers are in the forecast

It was a white Christmas in Louisville, after an Arctic blast left a few inches of snow and thick ice on the roads. A week later, though, it looks like we could have a grey New Year's celebration.

Jefferson County can expect a "rainy pattern" to make its way into town late this week that could put a damper on the holiday weekend, according to Ryan Sharp, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's local office.

The weather service has forecasted accumulation between half an inch and an inch of rain beginning on Thursday night, Sharp said. The projections Thursday morning on the weather service's website predicted the rain could stick around through Saturday, New Year's Eve.

As of Thursday morning, the chance for rain on New Year's Eve is mostly before lunchtime, although Chase Graham, another meteorologist with the weather service, said he couldn't rule out the chance for a "lingering shower" in the evening.

But if you don't mind a little rain, there's some good news – the forecast calls for "mild temperatures for this time of year," Graham said. Saturday could feel "quite warm" with a high up to 60 and lows in the 40s.
