Rainbow pierogi, Pride N' True cones: Metro Detroit restaurants offer Pride Month specials

June is Pride Month, a time dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ communities. In metro Detroit, several restaurants and food businesses are offering specials all month. Here are a few:

Zingerman's Bakehouse

Ann Arbor's Zingerman's Bakehouse introduced two new cupcakes honoring Juneteenth and Pride Month. Its Pride Month offering is a chocolate cupcake topped with a festive swirl of vanilla frosting. For Juneteenth, the Bakehouse has created a red velvet cupcake with sweet cream cheese frosting. It will be available June 17-19. Cupcakes are $3.75 each. 3711 Plaza Drive in Ann Arbor.

Rainbow Pierogi is back for a third year

Back for the third year in a row, Pietrzyk Pierogi will offer its Rainbow Rogi pierogi for the entire month of June. The pierogi feature dough the colors of the rainbow and come with potato and cheese filling. They sell for $20 a dozen. For each Rainbow Pierogi purchase, 25% will be donated to Ruth Ellis Center in Highland Park. Pietrzyk Pierogi will also donate 20% of sales from a selection of the store's other merchandise to the center.  Owner Erica Pietryzk said the goal is to make their largest donation this year to the center.

Items will be available for pickup at the Pietrzyk Pierogi location inside Gratiot Central Market, 1429 Gratiot Ave., in Detroit's Eastern Market district. To order: pietrzykpierogi.com.

Pride N' True cone at Mister Dips

The cone of the month at Mister Dips in downtown Detroit will feature the colors of the rainbow. Mister Dips Pride N' True is vanilla custard garnished with the colors of the rainbow and sells for $7.59, according to the business' website. Proceeds benefit the Trevor Project, which works to "end suicide among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning young people." The group also provides 24/7 crisis support service.

Mister Dips is in Parker's Alley, a walkway behind the Shinola Hotel that stretches from Grand River to John R in downtown Detroit. For information, visit misterdips.com.
