Here are rainfall totals for Fort Collins and across Colorado after 3-day storm

Proof of the power of Colorado's three-day storm that ended Friday came in many facets:

  • Larimer County was simultaneously under a flood watch and winter storm advisory.

  • Elizabeth received the most rain, with 6.8 inches over the three days.

  • Snowplows cleared hail, some as large as 2 inches in diameter, from roads; flooding closed Cherry Creek State Park in Denver; and a smattering of tornadoes touched down.

  • Denver's three-day total of 4.4 inches of rain was the fifth most for a three-day span.

Fort Collins missed the damaging hail, flooding and tornadoes but picked up 2 inches of needed precipitation Wednesday through early Friday, according to the city's official weather station on the CSU campus.

"Locally, we're still a bit below average for the water year with precipitation, but this brings us back close to the average,'' said Russ Schumacher, professor in CSU's Department of Atmospheric Science and Colorado's state climatologist. "For Fort Collins, it was more of a typical May soaker.''

He added that the northeast plains, well below normal for precipitation, received a "huge boost.''

The rain boosted Fort Collins' precipitation for the month to 2.02 inches. Average precipitation for May is 2.72 inches. The weekend forecast calls for a 50% chance of rain Saturday and 70% chance Sunday.
