Rainford gets tricky for Bolton

Sep. 14—Coming off its first loss of the season Saturday, the Bolton High boys soccer team was looking for a rebound game Tuesday afternoon.

Dimani Rainford provided the spark his team needed.

The junior recorded a hat trick as the Bulldogs blanked Windsor Locks 3-0 in a NCCC game in Bolton.

"I thought we responded well after a bit of a letdown over the weekend," Bolton coach Brian Dube said. "Windsor Locks fought hard the whole game. A good win for us."

Rainford opened the scoring for Bolton (2-1-0) 12 minutes into the game. He added his second goal with nine minutes left in the half to put the hosts up two at the break. Rainford completed the hat trick in the final minute of play.

Owen Bonanno, Gavin LaPlante and Sam Segar assisted on the goals. Segar also made two saves in net for Bolton.

Caden Mackey stopped nine shots for Windsor Locks (0-2-0).

The Raiders are at Stafford Thursday while Bolton travels to Suffield Friday.

SOMERS 6, EAST GRANBY 1. Tom Lesco had a goal and two assists as the Spartans earned a NCCC road win to open their season.

Lesco opened the scoring for Somers (1-0-0) with an unassisted goal 16:15 into the game. He added his assists during a five-goal second half for the Spartans.

Senior David Reid scored his first varsity goal to begin the barrage 2:24 into the half. That was followed by the first two varsity goals of sophomore Jack Brayton's career, a goal from Dylan Doody and the first-career varsity goal for sophomore Nico Skalski.

Skalski and Reid also recorded assists, as did Tristan Hogan. Goalie Owen Argiro made two saves in the win.

Freshman Gianni Damato scored the lone goal for the Crusaders (1-1-0) with 10:40 to play. Ryan Hall stopped eight shots.

Somers entertains Canton Friday.

ELLINGTON 6, ROCKVILLE 0. Owen Hoffman tallied the hat trick as the Knights opened their season with a NCCC win at home.

Hoffman opened the scoring for the Knights (1-0-0) by converting a penalty kick with 6:50 left in the first half. Teammate Nate Beturne put Ellington ahead by two with 2:45 left in the half.

Ellington scored four more goals in the second half: two by Hoffman, one by Linus Schenke and one by Sam Forst.

Beturne also recorded an assist, as did Caden Branon. Goalie Cole Leavitt made four saves.

Abdullah Chaudhry stopped two shots for Rockville (1-1-0).

Both teams are in action Friday. Ellington is at Granby while the Rams host East Granby.

SOUTH WINDSOR 1, EAST HARTFORD 1. Drew Monteserin found the back of the net early in the second half to give the Bobcats a tie with the Hornets in a CCC East game in East Hartford.

South Windsor (1-0-1) was down 1-0 when Monteserin stepped up for a penalty kick with 30:46 left in regulation.

East Hartford goalie Lesly Pinthiere made the initial save, but Monteserin was there to bury the rebound and tie the game at one.

Alex Martinez opened the scoring for the Hornets (1-0-1) with 22:27 left in the first half. Gianmarco DeLaCruz had the assist.

Pinthiere finished with six saves while Kyle Sullivan had 12 saves for the Bobcats.

South Windsor is at Enfield Thursday while the Hornets entertain Windsor Friday.

ENFIELD 4, E.O. SMITH 1. Traizen Griffith recorded a hat trick as the Eagles won a CCC East game in Storrs.

The senior opened the scoring for Enfield (1-1-0) 12 minutes into the game following a through ball from Antonio Calabrese.

Griffith added his second goal a minute later, picking up a loose ball and scoring from 18 yards away. He completed the hat trick with two minutes left in the first half when he converted a penalty kick.

Classmate Alex Herron put the Eagles up four 10 minutes into the second half following an assist from Josh Penti.

Garrison King scored the lone goal for the Panthers (0-2-0) with 23 minutes to play.

Lucas Wachtel made four saves for Enfield while Garrett Ballou stopped eight shots in the loss.

Enfield welcomes South Windsor to Fermi High Thursday night.

RHAM 1, TOLLAND 1. Jacob Dooley's second-half goal lifted the Raptors to a tie with the Eagles in a CCC East contest in Tolland.

Tolland (1-0-1) jumped in front seven minutes into Tuesday's game when senior Kaden Ali beat goalie Erik Buden after a pass from Luke McCarthy.

The Eagles maintained the lead into the second half when Dooley scored from 30 yards away to tie it eight minutes into the half.

Buden finished with four saves for RHAM (1-0-1). Freshman Andrew Chater and senior Noah Hill split goaltending duties for Tolland, combining to make one save.

Both teams are home Friday. Tolland hosts Simsbury while RHAM entertains Lewis Mills.

MANCHESTER 1, EAST CATHOLIC 1. The Red Hawks' Brendan Norris and the Eagles' CJ Nolan scored the goals for their teams in a CCC East tie at Manchester High.

It's the third straight tie the teams have played against each other. They played two 0-0 ties last year.

Joey Rose made four saves for Manchester (0-1-1) while Alejandro Oyewole stopped three shots for East Catholic (0-1-1).

The Red Hawks are at Southington Thursday while the Eagles are in Avon Friday.

WINDSOR 2, WETHERSFIELD 1. Taeshawn Berry's second-half goal pushed the host Warriors past the Eagles in a CCC North game at Jack O'Brien Stadium.

Windsor (2-0-0) trailed 1-0 at the half before sophomore Nigel Martin tied it four minutes into the second half. Berry, a junior, then put the hosts ahead for good with 17 minutes to play.

William Stillman and freshman Makai Badeau had the assists. Goalie Micah Gregory had six saves.

Fikret Dervisevic scored the lone goal for Wethersfield (0-2-0). Teammate Brogan Crowell stopped six shots.

The Warriors are East Hartford Friday.

GLASTONBURY 7, NW CATHOLIC 0. Ben Pavano had a goal and two assists as the Guardians earned a CCC West win at home.

Jack Shaheen added a goal and an assist for Glastonbury (2-0-0), which posted its second straight shutout.

The Guardians also received goals from Adam Molusis, Gage Haines, Mateo Greco, Tiago Barreira and Nick Bonaiuto. Grayson Haskins, Nathan Infante, Jackson Boyd and Robbie Meissner also recorded assists.

Patrick Butler, Alex Bellofiore and Tobin Walsh combined to make one save in the win. Zach Sinclair stopped nine shots for the Lions (0-2-0).

Glastonbury is at Wethersfield Friday.
