Raising Cane's continues Florida expansion, opens first Treasure Coast restaurant

PORT ST. LUCIE − Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers opened its doors Tuesday morning in St. Lucie West.

The fast-food chain announced in February it would open eight Florida locations this year, including its first on the Treasure Coast.

“It’s clear to us we have a strong presence of 'Caniacs' across the Sunshine State,” C.J. Clement, area leader of restaurants, said in a news release. “We are excited to keep the momentum going and share our 'One Love' (chicken finger meals) with Port St. Lucians."

Where did Raising Cane's begin?

What started out as a college class project in 1994 turned into a growing fast-food chain.

In 1996, Raising Cane's opened its first location in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The restaurant got its name from CEO Todd Graves' pet golden Labrador retriever, Raising Cane, which frequented the first restaurant's construction site, according to the company website.

What is Raising Cane's known for?

The Box Combo is a Raising Cane's favorite, with four chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, one Cane's sauce, Texas toast, coleslaw and a 22-ounce drink.

What is Cane's sauce?

The signature sauce is such a hit among Caniacs that the restaurant offers it in 32-ounce cups.

While the sauce is a secret Raising Cane's recipe, copycat recipes online try to replicate it using these pantry staples: ketchup, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt and black pepper.
