Raleigh School bus wreck under investigation; no injuries reported

Jan. 5—No injuries were reported after a school bus slid down a steep bank in Sophia Friday morning.

The incident occurred around 7:05 a.m. in the 1100 block of West Main Street in Sophia, according to a Facebook post by the Coal City Fire Department, which responded to the call.

Raleigh County Schools Superintendent Serena Starcher said no students were on board at the time of the incident.

A photo posted by the Coal City Fire Department showed the school bus on its side directly in front of a home on West Main Street in Sophia.

When asked for specifics regarding the bus driver, Starcher said she was unable to comment on personnel matters. She added that the accident is under investigation.

The Sophia City Fire Department, Sophia Police Department and JanCare Ambulance also responded to the scene.
