Ralph Lauren's Son Andrew Lauren Buys Georgette Mosbacher's Fifth Avenue Apartment for $21 Million

Ralph Lauren's son Andrew Lauren has the family eye for aesthetics. The film producer, whose credits include Noah Baumbach’s indie hit The Squid and the Whale, recently put down $21 million for a luxurious Fifth Avenue apartment formerly belonging to Georgette Mosbacher (a longtime familiar face in political circles who was recently named the U.S. ambassador to Poland). Mosbacher, who owned the home for 25 years, was previously married to the former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Robert Mosbacher. The 5,000-square-foot apartment faces the Metropolitan Museum of Art and features 20-foot high ceilings, a private elevator landing, a library, an office, a laundry room, and a formal dining room where Georgette Mosbacher famously held dinner salons with high-powered politicians, creatives, and business tycoons (a supporter of President Donald Trump, Mosbacher previously hosted him in her home). The three-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom apartment also comes with a hefty maintenance fee of $9,375 per month. Mosbacher initially listed her longtime home for $29.5 million in January 2017, but Ralph Lauren's son was able to get it for $8 million lower than the original asking price. A five-bedroom unit in the same building, albeit not as spacious as Mosbacher's, sold for $18 million last August.
