Ram’s 2025 electric pickup may be last, but these features should ensure it won’t be least

Ram hopes to set the standard for electric pickup range when the 2025 Ram 1500 Rev goes on sale in 2024.

Ram will be the last of the Detroit Three to begin selling an electric pickup — and as late as the eighth electric pickup on the market overall, if the oft-delayed Tesla Cyber truck ever hits the road.

With that in mind, the Stellantis brand’s engineers set out to make sure their EV pickup will deliver plenty of "bests" and "firsts."

Among Ram’s claims:

  • Up to 500-mile range on a charge with the optional 229 kWh battery

  • Up to 350-mile range with the standard 168 kWh battery

  • 14,000-pound towing capacity

  • 2,700-pound payload, the weight in its cab and bed

  • 0-60 in 4.4 seconds

  • 24-inch water fording ability

  • The ability to add 110 miles of range in 10 minutes at a 350 kW DC fast charger (DCFC)

  • Standard 23-speaker Klipsch Reference Quality audio system

Ram unveiled the 2025 1500 REV at the New York auto show Wednesday. It’ll be on display there through April 16.  The pickup should go on sale in fourth quarter of 2024.

This is the first time Ram has shown the production version of its EV. The vehicle at the auto show shares many features with a concept truck the automaker revealed at the CES electronics show in January.

The production Ram 1500 EV will come with a four-door crew cab and a pair of electric motors producing one powering each axle. Power output will be 645 hp and 620 pound-feet of torque.

The 1500 Rev rides on a new body-on-frame Stellantis developed for large electric vehicles. It’s called STLA Frame and has high-strength steel rails. The frame widens in the 1500’s middle to accommodate its battery.

Ram won’t say how long a full charge will take, either from the 240-volt chargers most EV owners use at home every night, or the DCFCs that make long drives requiring several charges feasible.

The 1500 Rev can provide power to other vehicles, homes or devices, making it handy for anything from power outages to work sites.

Plug & Charge available

LED headlights shaped like horizontal tuning forks and a lighted “RAM” between them promise to make the 1500 Rev easy to spot at a distance.

Ram’s unique RamBox storage compartments will be available in the rear fenders. The front trunk features power open and close. There is 15 cubic feet of space and a power panel that provides up to 3.6kW. Another power panel in the bed can provide 7.2 kW.

Interior features will include a 12- or 14.5-inch center touch screen. There is a 10.25-inch touch screen the front seat passenger can use for navigation, entertainment or to see views from the Rev’s exterior cameras.

The Rev will offer a couple of features EV owners appreciate: one-pedal braking to maximize power regeneration and Plug & Charge, a system that allows participating charging stations to recognize the vehicle and begin charging and billing automatically when the Rev plugs in.

New trim level

The 1500 Rev will debut a new trim level, Tungsten, for top models likely to start around $100,000.

The brand’s traditional trim levels will also be available:

  • Tradesman

  • Big Horn/Lone Star

  • Laramie

  • Limited

Ram hasn’t announced 1500 Rev prices yet.

It’s not clear when the various trim levels will be available. If Ram follows the practice common with new EVs, it’ll concentrate on building top-priced models for some time before adding more affordable ones.

Ram is expected to add a pickup with a range-extending gasoline engine, the 1500 Rev XR.
