The City of Zanesville's Downtown Design Review Board approved the demolition of 731 Main St. during its meeting last week. The building is owned by Muskingum Respiratory Care Association. The association owns the adjacent building that houses the Rambo Memorial Health Center at 711 Main St.

Bill Schimmel, president of the association said "We purchased the building to protect our asset, 711 Main Street." The building had been declared a hazard by the city's code enforcement office. "We have a very real concern it may collapse onto our building. It is beyond repair, with a myriad of structural issues."

Schimmel said they have no plans for the property following demolition, but they are considering a landscaped green space.

The association purchased the building in January for $35,000.
