Ramón Laureano records jaw-dropping, not entirely intentional double play
Ramón Laureano’s reputation for having one of the best outfield arms in baseball might have just taken a bit of a hit. Luckily, it all still worked out for the Oakland Athletics.
The A’s center fielder turned in one of the best plays of the season with a home run robbery of Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Teoscar Hernández, then went for an even more incredible throw to first base for a double play.
However, the throw was just a bit outside. And about 30 feet over the head of A’s first baseman Kendrys Morales.
The baserunner, Blue Jays first baseman Justin Smoak, immediately bolted for second base as Laureano’s throw went into foul territory. That turned out to be a mistake, as A’s catcher Nick Hundley backed up first base and made a Derek Jeter-esque jump throw to second to finally record the double play.

Just your standard 8-2-4 double play.
This is definitely isn’t the first time that Laureano has landed on a highlight reel, as he’s made jaw-dropping plays a regular occurrence in his first two years in Oakland. Of course, this might be the first time that type of play didn’t go entirely according to plan.
