After being closed for months, the ramp from Interstate 77 North to Interstate 76 East at Akron's Central Interchange is scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. Tuesday.

The ramps from state Route 8 southbound and I-77 northbound at the interchange to I-77 northbound/I-76 westbound remain closed through May 2023 as contractors continue work on the interchange.

The I-76 eastbound ramp was closed in March due to the reconstruction of northbound lanes of I-77. Contractors started rebuilding northbound lanes of I-77 in South Akron and Firestone Park in January, reducing that stretch of road to two lanes.

As part of the work, access to I-77 North from the south was restricted by the additional closure of northbound ramps from I-277/I-224 at the Coventry Township interchange. They are scheduled to be closed through late fall. A date for their reopening has not been announced.

The Ohio Department of Transportation also closed ramps to I-77 North at Waterloo and Wilbeth roads and Archwood Avenue. The ramp from I-77 northbound to Wilbeth Road is now open. The ramps from Waterloo and Wilbeth roads to I-77 North remain closed.

Overnight closures set for Monday

Two Route 8 ramps are scheduled to close overnight Monday from 10 p.m. to 5 am. for bridge beam placements:

  • The ramp from Carroll Street to Route 8 southbound. The detour will be Exchange Street to Fountain Street to the Perkins Street/Route 8 southbound ramp.

  • The ramp from Route 8 southbound to I-76 eastbound. The detour will be Route 18/East Market Street to I-76 eastbound.

Twinsburg Township closure

Ravenna Road in Twinsburg Township between Old Mill Road and Route 82 in Twinsburg Township is scheduled to close Wednesday for two weeks for a culvert replacement as part work resurfacing Ravenna Road. Karvo Cos. is the contractor on the $1.4 million dollar improvement project.

The detour route will be posted. The detour route will involve Old Mill Road, state Route 91, and state Route 82. Access to all driveways will be maintained on either side of the closure. Work is subject to weather conditions.
