The lopsided score in Sunday’s Rams-Giants game led to playing time for several backups on Los Angeles’ side, with Sean McVay giving younger players opportunities to play in the 38-11 win. Starters on offense got a rest in the fourth quarter and on defense, it was a mix of first-stringers and reserve players.

Several players got on the field for offensive and defensive snaps for the first time this year, getting their feet wet during the blowout. Terrell Burgess got the start at the nickel spot but still isn’t getting much run on defense.

Here’s an analysis of the snap counts from Sunday’s win at MetLife Stadium.

Offense

Only five players on offense played every snap this week because of the lopsided score, which caused Sean McVay to pull some of his starters – including Matthew Stafford. Tyler Higbee was still out there for every play after Johnny Mundt went down with a knee injury after only three plays, with Jacob Harris getting onto the field for six snaps.

Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp continue to lead the wide receivers with 58 and 55 snaps played, respectively, and Van Jefferson was behind them with 42 snaps played. McVay said after the game that the Rams’ big lead caused DeSean Jackson’s role to be limited as he played just 16 snaps – nine more than Tutu Atwell.

Darrell Henderson Jr. played 54 of a possible 66 snaps, being replaced by Sony Michel for 12 plays. Michel had nine carries, so for the most part when he was on the field, he was getting the ball.

Defense

The defensive snap counts look very different than they usually do. Robert Rochell and Dont’e Deayon played the most snaps of anyone, with 71 and 66, respectively. Jalen Ramsey had a lighter workload due to the blowout, playing a season-low 76% of the snaps. David Long Jr. didn’t play much early in the game, but he did get on the field for 20 snaps as a reserve once the scoring margin got out of reach.

Jordan Fuller and Taylor Rapp were still the top two safeties, playing 65 and 64 snaps, respectively. Nick Scott played 33 snaps as the third safety, maintaining the role he’s carved out this season.

Terrell Burgess got the start at nickel but he played just nine total snaps on defense. The coaching staff still doesn’t have much confidence in the second-year defensive back, giving Deayon and Long reps ahead of Burgess on Sunday.

Terrell Lewis’ workload continues to increase, playing a career-high 68% of the snaps Sunday. Leonard Floyd only played 51%, a lower share than he’s used to. Ogbonnia Okoronkwo checked in for 32 plays, while Jamir Jones played 22 snaps, too – his first defensive reps with the Rams.

A’Shawn Robinson seems to have fallen out of favor, playing only 14 snaps. Yes, it was a blowout, but he only played 13 snaps last week, too. Greg Gaines is getting more playing time right now, as are Michael Hoecht and Jonah Williams.

Kenny Young retook his place as the top linebacker, playing 42 snaps compared to Troy Reeder’s 22. Even Ernest Jones played more than Reeder, playing a season-high 26 snaps against the Giants. Travin Howard played 10 snaps, his first opportunities on defense this year.
