'The Ranch' retreat buys old Alexander Hamilton family estate in Hudson Valley for $11M

SLOATSBURG − The Ranch, a company that operates exclusive wellness retreats in Malibu, Italy and Vail, finalized its purchase of the historic estate once owned by Alexander Hamilton's family called Table Rock. The Ranch Hudson Valley anticipates a March 2024 opening, according to its website.

The property sold for $11 million, Rand Commercial Real Estate announced Friday.

“We wanted to respect and satisfy the ongoing demand from our East Coast guests to open a property closer to them," Alex Glasscock, founder and CEO of The Ranch, said in a statement. "Given its idyllic location, we also hope it becomes the perfect destination for corporate groups looking to integrate a more health-minded approach to their offsite retreats, meetings and incentive travel programs.”

Place in history

Table Rock, a 2,000-acre Gilded Age estate, was built for the grandson of Alexander Hamilton and his wife, the daughter of J.P. Morgan. It includes a 40,000-square-foot house and originally had 52 rooms. Many of the home's original details are still intact.

The Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, a Byzantine Catholic order, purchased about 260 acres of the estate in 1941, with St. Mary's Villa Retreat House located in the main house and St. Joseph’s Adult Care Home in converted stables.

This is just the fourth property sale for Table Rock.

The property's address is 150 Sisters Servants Lane.

The setting and the mission

The main house includes a two-story floating staircase and an 83-foot long gallery with a enormous Norman-style fireplace, oak floors and walls and sculptured plaster ceilings.

New York designer Steven Gambrel has been tapped to do a design overhaul, according to The Ranch.

The property will offer 25 guest rooms, and plans include converting the 2,000-square-foot ballroom into gym space.

The Ranch plans to capitalize on the property's location with guest activities that use nearby Harriman State Park and Ringwood State Park in New Jersey.

The luxury health retreat explains its mission as "creating a safe, secure and sacred place to allow for personal awareness and life transformation; physically, mentally and spiritually."

A four-day, five-night stay in Italy starts at $4,950 per person for a double-occupancy room. The shortest stay for the Malibu location is six nights at seven days, at $7,600 per person for a double-occupancy room.

Details about stays and prices for Ranch Hudson Valley are not yet available, but the site will offer shorter stays of three or four days.
