Randall boys, Dumas girls win District 3-5A wrestling championships

Another year, another dominant run by the Randall Raiders in wrestling.

The District 3-5A wrestling championships took place on Friday and Saturday at Amarillo High School. Once again, the Randall boys took home the district title and were joined by the Dumas girls in winning the district crown

Randall scored 253 points, 15 more than second place Tascosa. The Demonettes were dominant in their run with 209, 49 more than second place Caprock.

The top four individuals in each weight class advance to the regional championship set for Friday and Saturday at West Texas A&M University’s First United Bank Center in Canyon.

In the 106-pound bracket, Michael Ruiz of Randall was the boys champion with Tascosa's Aden Zamora, Carlos Magallanes of Dumas and Jose Palacios of Hereford joining him at regionals next week. In the 100-pound bracket for girls, Tascosa's Zurri Zamora was the champion with Tammy Salazar of Amarillo Caprock, Destiny Castillo of Hereford and Serese Guillen of Dumas joining her.

In the 107-pound girls bracket, Tascosa's Talyn Burkhalter was the champion with Berkley Funderburg of Dumas, Grace Blankenburg of West Plains and Alyssa Navarrete of Randall following her to WT. In the 113-pound grouping, Tascosa's Ethan Sims was the first-place finisher as Rylan Jones of Randall, Jaycob Banda of Amarillo High and Ace Garcia of Canyon advanced as well.

Caprock got a champion in the 120-pound bracket in Malachi McClenton, who will be joined at the FUB by Kason White of Randall, Ubaldo Gonzalez of Amarillo High and Diego Tino of Hereford. Miliyah Pacheco of Tascosa won the 114-pound crown as Deja Saslazar of Caprock, Victoria Vasquez of Palo Duro and Kennedi Purcell of Dumas clinched spots at regionals too.

Caprock's Athena Solis won the 120-pound girls bracket and will head to Canyon with Novia Castleberry of Amarillo High, Maira Villarreal of Hereford and Micaela Martinez of Randall. The Dumas boys got a champ in the 126-pound class in Hunter Bogner as Ashton Bennert of Randall, Kaden Ford of Tascosa and Michael Jesko of Hereford also advanced.

Tascosa's Thomas Pacheco won the 132-pound title with Brandon Smith of Dumas, Ethan Mendoza of Randall and Juan Zamora of Hereford also heading to regionals. Dumas' Emily Loya took the belt in the 126-pound bracket as Michelle Macedo of Caprock, Mia Alonzo of Hereford and Payton Ertl of West Plains also advanced.

Borger picked up a big win in the 132-bracket as Julia Stevens won the title. She'll head to the FUB with Audi Pichardo of Dumas, Mia Rodriguez of West Plains and Lia Valdez of Caprock. Dumas' Daniel Acosta was the 138-pound boys champ and moves forward with Nathaniel Ruiz of Randall, Anthony Smith of Tascosa, and Adrian Delgado of Caprock.

Caprock's Richard Davila won the boys 144-pound championship with Tascosa's Noah Santiago, Dumas' Ezven Venzor and Randall's David Mora. Dumas' Elaina Morgan won the girls 138-pound title with Madi Halcomb of Tascosa, Amarillo High's Myleigh Hammarbeck and Skylar Head of Canyon going on, too.

The 145-pound girls' bracket had Caprock's Kareli Cadena secure the championship with placements claimed by Emma Heaton of Randall, Andrea Aguirre of Dumas and Ella Higgins of Bushland. Dumas' Bronson Baxter won the boys 150-pound bracket with Elijah Pena of Randall, Caleb Juarez of Caprock and Sebastien Deleon of Palo Duro moving on.

Tascosa's Landin Lamberth brought home the gold in the boys 157-bracket followed up by Cesar Enriquez of Hereford, Macklin Houser of West Plains and Carson Heiselman of Randall. The girls 152-pound contest was won by Randall's Morgan Green, who will compete at the FUB along with Ximena Giron of Dumas, Mackenzie Leach of Caprock and Kylie O`Dell of West Plains.

Defending state champion J`Nessa Reynoso of Randall was victorious in the girls 165-pound bracket and will head to regionals with Keygan Grubb of West Plains, Jasmine Vick of Palo Duro, and Aubrey Ramos of Canyon. For the boys 165-pound class, Andres Suarez of Tascosa got the title with Jackson Moss of Dumas, Tyler Webb of Amarillo High and Mark Gallegos of Randall coming up behind him.

In the 175-pound group, Canyon's Riley Davis took home the title with Darien Lewis of Palo Duro, Azariah Martinez of Hereford and Peyton Drolet of Amarillo High joining him at regionals. The Bushland girls got a champion in the 185-pound class with Dally McConnell. She was joined by Mareetza Maceda of Hereford, Kennedy Juarez of Randall and Angel Sanchez of Dumas on the podium.

The final girl's bracket in the 235-pound bracket saw Jolee Jones of Dumas got the belt there with Ariana Maestas of Borger, Kristy Ortega of Palo Duro and Ashlyn Heath of Canyon.

Alberto Sanchez from Dumas was the 190-pound winner and advanced to regionals alongside Jaxon Johnson of Tascosa, Braden Swanson of Canyon and Parker Peterson of Randall. The 215-pound class was taken by AHS' Ryan Lofgren who will be joined by Arnoldo Hernandez of Dumas, Jaden King of Tascosa and Jeziah Murillo of Hereford.

The final boys bracket was the 285-pound division which had Terry Anthony of Boys Ranch secure the title. Eric Lucio of Hereford, Brice Cothrin of Amarillo High and Adrian Martinez of Caprock also earned spots at the regional meet.
