Although the tax rate decreased, the budget for Randall County went up even though there is an increase in salaries and in the price of goods.

“In 10 years twice, we have held the rate the same, and this year we are dropping the rate. Everyone in this room is trying to be as efficient as possible with the tax money that is coming in,” said Mark Benton, Precinct 2.

The commissioners also approved the proclamation of September as Hunger Action Awareness Month for Randall County. “We all know hunger is a struggle in our area, and we are blessed with the High Plains Food Bank. We want to make sure we can support our food banks,” said Randall County Judge Christy Dyer.

The Randall County Sheriff's Office asked for permission to submit a grant for bullet resistant shields. The governor's office has provided funding through the criminal justice division of the governor's office. This provides class 3A shields, which would be distributed through their patrol units during any possible dangerous events. There would be 31 shields for the patrol division and two shields for the SWAT team.

The next Randall County Commissioners meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
