A crash involving three vehicles in Randall County left a 13-year-old dead and three people injured Friday afternoon.

At about 2:05 p.m. Friday, July 21, a 2014 Dodge Caravan was eastbound on FM 2219, while a 2021 Kia Soul was westbound, approximately eight miles northwest of Canyon. At the same time, a 2021 Ford F250 was stopped at the stop sign on Dowell Road, facing south, according to an update from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) issued on Saturday.

DPS said the driver of the Dodge failed to yield right of way and attempted to make a left turn onto Dowell Road in the path of the Kia, and it was T-boned by the Kia.

After the initial impact, the Dodge Caravan spun around and struck the front end of the F250.

A passenger in the Dodge Caravan, identified as a 13-year-old girl from Dallas, was killed. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Randall County Justice of the Peace Tracy Byrd. The driver of the Dodge Caravan, identified as Karen Morrison, 68, of Dallas, was not injured.

The three occupants of the Kia Soul — the driver, Kaylee Todd, 21, of Leander, and two passengers, Kaitlin Bell, 21, of Justin, and Christina Gay, 22, of Amarillo — were taken to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with minor injuries. All were treated and released.

The driver of the F250, identified as Robert Logan, 54, of Amarillo, was not injured.

All parties involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. The posted speed limit was 70 mph, and road conditions were dry and clear at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol Troopers.
