Randall Jr. signs to Oakwood University

Apr. 21—THOMASVILLE — Jeray Randall, Jr., senior guard for the Thomasville Bulldogs, committed to HBCU Oakwood University on Wednesday morning, while surrounded by friends, family and teammates.

Bulldogs Head Coach Kiel Angry spoke on Randall Jr.'s work ethic, commending him for the hard work he had put in the past four years.

"He transferred with us last year," Angry said. "I've been fortunate to have two years with him, one as Assistant Coach and one as Head Coach. It's been a joy to work with Coach Randall's son, Jr. He's a leader on and off the court and I'm proud of him. I know he will do great things at Oakwood."

Angry then passed the microphone to Randall Jr.'s father, Jeray Randall, who thanked the Athletic Department for allowing him to join the staff as a coach and for helping develop his son into an athlete capable of playing at the next level.

"One thing I can say about my son is he's very disciplined," said Randall Sr. "That's the way we raised him, especially his mother, who does not play about those grades."

Randall Sr. said during his time coaching football Randall Jr. played quarterback. However, when the time rolled around for the championship, Randall Jr.'s mother said he couldn't play due to his grades.

Randall Jr. began attending tutoring after school to help with his grades, which Randall Sr. said payed off in the long run. "He is now in the top five percentile of his class," Randall Sr. said. "He works and works and I'm proud of him."

Randall Jr. thanked his parents and God, before thanking his coaches for helping him get to the next level.

In attendance was Randall Jr.'s new Head Coach at Oakwood, Simon Jacob.

Jacob explained that Oakwood was an HBCU dedicated to their faith.

"I'm big on putting God first, so I prayed that the athletes I needed for this team would come here," he said. "When I began talking to this young man and he told me his father was a pastor, I thought this was no accident."

Jacob thanked his parents for all the time they had poured into him and promised to help Randall Jr. continue to develop into the young man that God wanted him to be.

Randall Jr. said he looks forward to the opportunity and reminded his teammates who are looking to compete at the next level to stay humble, work hard, keep the faith and let God lead them in the direction of where they are supposed to go.
