Randolph man dies in crash on I-495; two Brockton men hurt

NORTON − A Randolph man was killed and two Brockton men were injured in a fiery crash on Interstate 495 in Norton early Saturday morning.

State Police said Jeffrey Tagger, 52, of Randolph, was killed in a two-car collision shortly after 2:30 a.m. Saturday on I-495 north near the exit for Route 123, WCVB reported.

A 2004 Nissan Maxima driven by Tagger hit the rear of a 2014 Toyota RAV4 in front of it, masslive.com reported.

The Nissan went out of control after the collision, veering off the highway to the right, where it rolled over and caught fire, State Police said. The Toyota swerved to the left after being struck and hit a guardrail.

Norton firefighters put out the flames in the Nissan and then found Tagger inside the car. State Police said Tagger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, a 48-year-old Brockton man, and his passenger, a 34-year-old Brockton man, were taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro to be treated for what appeared to minor injuries, State Police said.

State Police from Troop H, the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the Crime Scene Services Section and the Bristol County detective unit are investigating the crash.
