Randolph police investigating two shell casings found in elementary school classroom in 1 week
Randolph police are investigating after two shell casings were found in the same fourth-grade classroom in one week.
According to police, a casing was found in a Donovan Elementary School classroom on Friday, January 13.
Six days later, a shell casing was found in the same classroom on Thursday, January 19.
When both shell casings were discovered, school administrators initiated a shelter-in-place. Randolph police were contacted each time.
As part of the investigation, K-9 units swept the school on Tuesday, January 17. After the second shell casing was found on Thursday, police swept the school again that night.
On Friday, school administrators met with all homerooms to discuss the incidents and renew the school’s safety protocols. The Randolph school district also plans to schedule a forum for families to discuss the school safety measures.
“The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority and we understand that these incidents are concerning to our families,” Superintendent Stovell said. “I would like to thank the Randolph Police Department for their quick response and we will assist them in this investigation however we can. Any family who feels their student needs additional support at school following these incidents is encouraged to contact their building principal.”
Added Chief Marag, “We take findings like this extremely seriously and continue to conduct a thorough investigation of these incidents. We encourage anyone who has information to contact the police department.”
The incident remains under investigation. Members of the Randolph police department will have an additional presence at the school in the coming days.
