Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom is out indefinitely and will undergo surgery to repair an ulnar collateral ligament tear, general manager Chris Young announced Tuesday.

The news comes a day after the Rangers placed the ace on the 60-day injured list. The pitcher’s last game was against the Yankees on April 28, when he exited early due to injury concerns.

Young said the latest MRI showed more inflammation and significant structural damage that wasn’t present on the scan done after deGrom start against the Yankees.

“This stinks,” said deGrom, according to the Dallas Morning News. “It’s not ideal. But at least we know what it is now. I want to get it fixed and will set a goal to be back before the end of next year.”

The former Met started six games for the Rangers this season. He has a 2-0 record with a 2.67 ERA in 30.1 innings pitched.

Last winter, he departed Queens and signed a five-year, $185 million contract with the Rangers.

Injuries have followed deGrom in his career. He was limited to 156.1 innings over 26 starts in his last two years with the Mets.

The ace was selected to four All-Star teams in his five seasons with the Mets. He also won back-to-back Cy Young awards in 2018 and 2019.
