Rapid COVID-19 testing offered at Hornell Community Arts Center on Wednesday

Amid a surge in new COVID-19 infections in Steuben County, the city of Hornell will hold a free rapid testing clinic from 1 to 5 p.m., Wednesday at the Community Arts Center, 58 Broadway Mall.

No appointment is necessary and the test is available to anyone. Residents are asked to wear a mask at all times and remain onsite for approximately 10 minutes.

Steuben County Public Health provided the kits for the clinic and the Hornell Fire Department will administer the tests.

Fueled by the omicron variant, last week’s data showed a 251% increase in Steuben County COVID-19 infections, with 1,118 new cases and four deaths reported.

Health officials advised residents to monitor themselves for COVID-19 symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills or repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat and new loss of taste or smell.
