Rapides assistant superintendent named as new LaSalle schools superintendent

An executive assistant superintendent for Rapides Parish schools soon will leave to become superintendent in LaSalle Parish.

Jonathan Garrett, who oversees curriculum and instruction in Rapides, was selected as the new superintendent during a Monday meeting by the LaSalle Parish School Board, according to Jena radio station KJNA.

A Rapides schools spokesperson said Garrett is still working for the district as of Wednesday. A start date for him in LaSalle hasn't been announced yet.

Messages left for Garrett and the LaSalle school system weren't immediately returned on Wednesday.

Garrett is a former principal at Alexandria Senior and Buckeye high schools, as well as Ruby Wise Elementary School.
