Should Rapides schools start in August or September? Here's how to cast your vote
Voters again rejected a balanced calendar as a possibility for Rapides Parish schools, but the deadline has been extended because neither of the other options received a majority.
The remaining options for the 2022-23 school year are a traditional calendar with an Aug. 8 start of classes or a calendar with a Sept. 6 start date.
Last year, the district offered a choice between a balanced calendar, which keeps students in classes longer into the summer but with more breaks throughout the year, and traditional.

People overwhelmingly picked the traditional option.
Voting has been extended through 4 p.m. Jan. 28.
The results will be presented at the Feb. 1 Rapides Parish School Board meeting, and a vote will be taken then.
