The word apparently is out: Kansas City —specifically the West Bottoms area — is a great place to shoot a rap video.

Last summer, Grammy-nominated rapper A$AP Rocky filmed a video there for his single “Riot (Rowdy Pipe’n),” supported by a large team of local musicians, actors, makeup artists, art teams and others.

His life partner, singer Rihanna, pregnant at the time with their second child, came with him.

Now rapper J. Cole has followed suit.

Cole was in town earlier this month as the opening act of Drake’s It’s All a Blur Tour – Big As the What? at the T-Mobile Center. While he was here, social media users posted photos of him in front of cameras in the West Bottoms.

In a video posted on social media Monday, the Grammy winner is seen rapping while walking and riding a bike through the West Bottoms. Fans suspect the brief video teases an upcoming song.

In February, he set up an Instagram page, “Might Delete Later,” where he has posted two vlogs with behind-the-scenes tour footage and glimpses of a recording session.

“Is J. Cole actually teasing new music from a burner account on social media?” the iHeart website wondered Tuesday, the day after a second vlog containing the new video snippet was posted.

“Fans suspect that the title of the page, ‘mightdeletelater’ is a nod to a future album title, despite Cole supposedly revealing the title of his next project back in 2023. “

“If the 39-year-old standout is in fact teasing a new album, the project will be his first since 2021’s The Off-Season,” the website noted.

Last year, Cole said the title of his next album would be “The Fall Off,” but no single has been released I yet.

Cole and Drake were set to perform Tuesday night in Oklahoma City.
