Rapper Rick Ross’ buffalo escape, wander through Fayette County neighborhood

A herd of wild buffalo were spotted far from home on the range in Fayette County last week.

The animals, which are owned by Atlanta rapper Rick Ross, decided to take a stroll around the Northbridge community on March 13.

Photos and videos showed the massive animals casually wandering through people’s front yards.

The rapper admitted that the animals belong to him on a social media post. The rapper’s Promise Land estate in Fayette County is one of the largest private homes in the U.S. and sits on 235 acres of land. The rapper is known to keep horses, buffalo and cows.

“Always return stray animals. Always keep a collar on an animal. Mine don’t have a collar, so when you see a buffalo, give it a carrot. Give it a apple. They so kind, they so peaceful,” Ross said. “Thank you everybody for making sure all my animals got back into the Promised Land.”

The sheriff’s office said that while it is legal to own livestock in Fayette County, the owner is responsibly for properly restraining the animals.

“The Sheriff’s Office was made aware of the situation and is currently working with the Fayette County Marshal’s Office to remedy the situation,” deputies said. “Sheriff Babb and Chief Deputy Rhodes have also been in communication with Northbridge residents since last week listening to these concerns.”

The sheriff’s office said that buffalo are mostly docile, but can be unpredictable and become aggressive.

“So, as captivating as these animals are, we encourage everyone to use caution if they were to encounter them,” the sheriff’s office said.

Buffalo, also known as bison, can grow up to 12 feet in length and can weigh as much as 2,000 pounds.
