Rapper Rick Ross’ pet buffaloes roam free after escaping Georgia mansion, photos show

It was an unusual sight for residents of an Atlanta-area community, seeing a herd of bison casually roaming just feet from their front door.

The large bovines, which belong to rapper Rick Ross, were seen strolling in the Northbridge Community on March 13 after they escaped the rapper’s mansion in Fayette County, Georgia, deputies and news outlets reported.

Photos shared by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office show the animals grazing in a resident’s backyard. A video posted to Facebook also showed them roaming and running between houses.

The “Hustlin’” rapper acknowledged the animals were his in an Instagram Story.

“Always return stray animals. Always keep a collar on an animal,” Ross said, according to WSB-TV. “Mine don’t have a collar, so when you see a buffalo, give it a carrot. Give it a apple. They so kind, they so peaceful.”

“Thank you everybody for making sure all my animals got back into the Promised Land,” the rapper said.

The bison, which can weigh up to 2,400 pounds, are causing issues for some neighbors who said they don’t feel safe, WANF and WAGA reported. A woman who reported the roaming bovines said she has small children who like to play outside, according to WANF.

Fayette County deputies said they’re aware of the incident and are working with the Fayette County Marshal’s Office to come up with a solution. While owning livestock isn’t illegal, authorities said it’s the owner’s responsibility to ensure the animals are properly restrained.

Negligence could lead to charges, they said.

Ross’ luxury estate, dubbed the Promise Land, is home to his 44,234 square-foot mansion and boasts its own zoo, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Formerly owned by legendary boxer Evander Holyfield, the sprawling complex also houses several horses, a bull, buffaloes and lions — two of which were purchased last year, the newspaper reported.

Fayette County deputies have urged residents in the area to be careful if they come across one of the animals.

“As captivating as these animals are, we encourage everyone to use caution if they were to encounter them,” authorities wrote. “Although they are mostly docile, they can be unpredictable and possibly become aggressive.”

Fayette County is about 30 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta.
