Raptors squeeze past Plainville

May 19—HEBRON — Chase Melzen put down a successful suicide squeeze bunt in the bottom of the sixth inning that broke a 4- all tie as the RHAM High baseball team scored four times in the frame en route to an 8- 5 Central Connecticut Conference inter- division victory over Plainville on Wednesday.

Sean Connolly and Fayz Baig also contributed RBI singles in the sixth for the Raptors ( 13- 4). Bradley D'Amico struck out eight batters, walked three, scattered five hits and allowed one earned run in six innings on the mound. Connolly struck out two in the seventh.

In other games. ...

Tyler Tashea drove in three runs and scored twice while Lucas Tarbell had two hits with an RBI as Windham Tech fell in 10 innings to Wilcox Tech, 12- 7, in a Connecticut Technical Conference game in Willimantic.

Brody Belanger went 2- for- 4 with a run scored and has 13 hits in his last 18 at- bats for the Mighty Tigers ( 8- 11), who forced extra innings with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie things up at 7- all.

Belanger also struck out six batters and scattered five hits while allowing two earned runs over the opening 6.1 innings.

Bobby Herzman (3 hits) was a home run shy of the cycle for the Wildcats ( 15-5), who ended the regular season on an 8-game winning streak and out-scored its opponents 100-25 over that span.

In Bloomfield, Parish Hill extended its winning streak to four games and qualified for the CIAC Class S state tournament with a 6- 4 Capital Region Athletic League victory over MLC.

Joe Landolphi went 2- for-3 and scored three runs, Cam Bill had an RBI double and Alex Vecchio added two hits for the Pirates ( 8- 8 overall, 8- 2 league).

SOFTBALL

Keelan Groves broke a 1- all tie with an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning and Wheeler scored three runs in the frame for a 4- 1 Eastern Connecticut Conference inter- division victory over Windham in Willimantic.

Alyssa Lebiszczak and Cassidy O'Connor each had two hits for the Whips (9-8). Analise Escarraman struck out 12 batters while Britney Felicano had an RBI single in the bottom of the second that gave Windham a 1- 0 lead.

The Lions ( 11- 4) won their seventh straight game.

In Middletown, Hadley Marchand hit a 2- run triple and scored a run and RHAM scored seven times in the top of the sixth for a 9- 3 Central Connecticut Conference inter- division victory.

Alaina Perkins ( 2 hits, run, 2 RBI), Linnea Carlson (2 hits, 2 runs) and Ashley Perkins (2 hits, 2 RBI, run) had big days at the plate for

In Montville, Rayne Bobbi hit two doubles and homered in a 5-hit game, scored three runs and had six RBI as Lyman Memorial erupted for 11 runs in the top of the sixth inning for a 22-11 ECC Division III victory.

Lena- Maria Byers went 3-for-6 with four runs scored and two RBI, Kassidy LaTour (4 hits, 3 runs, 5 RBI) had two doubles and a triple and Rylee Benway added three hits, scored twice and collected two RBI to power the Bulldogs (15-4 overall, 6-2 league).

GIRLS TENNIS

Addison Brown and Lauren Fenton won at No. 1 doubles (6-0, 6-2) for RHAM in a 4-3 CCC East Division loss to Manchester in Hebron.

Morgan Fazzino and Anna Lavenburg (6-2, 6-1) and Allison Polochanin and Kiley Stanford ( 6- 0, 6- 0) also had doubles victories for the Raptors (5-8 overall, 2-3 league).

In Bolton, Lizzy Moulton and Evie Griswold ( 6- 3, 3-6, 6-1) and Ella Grindle and Amanda Cour ( 6- 3, 6- 0) won doubles matches for Coventry in a 4- 3 North Central Connecticut Conference loss.

Ashlyn White ( 6- 3, 6- 1) won her match at No. 3 singles for the Patriots ( 4- 5 overall, 4-5 league).

In Storrs, Amanda Schweitzer ( 6- 1, 6- 1) and Joyce Zhou (6-0, 6-1) won singles matches as E. O. Smith edged South Windsor, 4-3, in a CCC East Division match.

Kit Bray and Morgan Angell prevailed 12-10 in a decisive third-set tie-breaker at No. 2 doubles for the Panthers ( 4- 6 overall, 1- 4 league).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Ciara Murray had four goals and Maggie Walker had three goals and an assist for RHAM in a 10-9 loss in overtime to Northwest in a CCC Central Division game. Eva Morelli- Wolfe and Ally Bernier also scored goals while Cali Thibodeau had two assists as the Raptors ( 4- 11 overall, 2- 5 league) dropped their second straight game by one goal and fourth overall.

TUESDAY'S RESULTS BASEBALL Tyler Walter went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Windham snapped a 4- game losing streak with a 5-4 ECC inter- division victory at Putnam.

Christopher Brito also had two hits with an RBI and scored a run for the Whips (5-12). Jack Valliere threw a complete- game 4- hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk.
