Rare baby turtle hatches for 1st time at Zoo Atlanta in 30 years
One of the rarest and tiniest species of turtle in the entire country now has a new home at Zoo Atlanta.
Zoo Atlanta announced that a bog turtle hatched last month for the first time in 30 years.
The zoo has had three adult bog turtles there since 2014, but this is the first successful nest for the zoo.

Bog turtles are critically endangered and the smallest turtles in north America.
They have shells that are roughly the size of a quarter and fully-grown adults only weigh up to 4 ounces.
The new hatchling isn’t available for zoo visitors to see yet, but its father is housed in the bog turtle habitat at the Scaly Slimy Spectacular complex.
