Rare Bear Spotted Cooling Off in South Texas Lake
A locally rare black bear was spotted cooling off with a swim in a south Texas lake on June 10.
Debra Luke, who recorded this video, told Storyful that she and her husband were on a fishing trip when they spotted something unidentifiable in Lake Amistad’s waters.
She said at first they assumed the mystery animal was a dog, but were shocked to realize it was a bear taking a dip. She explained that the bear was swimming in Mexican waters and was swimming toward the US.
Texas Parks and Wildlife posted the video on Twitter, saying that although this was a rare sighting because black bears are a threatened species in Texas, the animals have been seen returning to their historic range in the area. Credit: Debra Luke via Storyful
