In Rare Independent Demonstration, Cubans March Against Animal Cruelty

More than 400 people protested against the abuse of animals in Havana, Cuba, on April 7, in what was a rare, and possibly unprecedented, independent protest in the country.

Animal lovers marched with their pets through Havana’s El Vedado neighborhood, carrying placards as they called for the introduction of animal protection laws.

One of the march’s organizers was quoted by the Associated Press as calling it “unprecedented”.

Sarah Marsh, a Reuters reporter in Havana, tweeted that the march was diverted at the last moment, reducing its visibility.
