Ann Rasmusen has been one of the top bowlers in the women's bowling scene in St. George for almost 20 years and she isn't showing any signs of slowing down.

Ann Rasmusen has already cemented her status as one of the best bowlers in St. George women's bowling circles with almost 20 years worth of sustained excellence, and she isn't showing any signs of slowing down.

And it all began in the 2005-06 season after changing her zip code to one in St. George from one in Salt Lake City and immediately began lighting up the scoring monitors in both St. George bowling centers.

For starters, she became the first woman to bowl a 300 game in St. George league play at Sunset Lanes in 2008 and fell a pin shy of a second a year later in a 299. And one of her multiple 700s, a 741 in 2013, is still the 4th highest by a woman in St. George bowling history.

Fast forward to last week when she orchestrated her latest scoring barrage in Dixie Ten Pins League play by punching out a 689 series with a combination of 19 strikes, including nine in a season-high 266, along with a clean 235 and 188. She booked a 190 high average last season, and this year after 63 games is averaging 190 in her DTP League.

Her resume includes the aforementioned 300, a pair of 299s, a career-high 776 series, a string of 20 straight strikes, bowling in multiple Pro Am Tournaments in Las Vegas, and a career-high 200 average.

High on her bucket list is an 800 series and two of her favorite TV programs over the years include CSI and NCIS.

In other action, fueled by a 257, Bryeann Barckley (635) continued a torrid scoring pace which began with her return to bowling some two months ago, Dawn Thomas averaged 206 between her two best league outings (627-243 & 611-224), PJ Redhouse (552-234) ended a recent scoring funk, and Jan Crawford (565-212) put up very competitive scores.

Carol Ketterer (536-208) had a good week, Shell Hurd's first-rate effort included a 527 set on games of 177, 176 and 174 during which she picked up both the 6-7-10 and 4-7-9 splits, and Tina Syddall was happy after tossing both a season-high 517 series and 213 game.

Meanwhile, Lisa Jones (516), Kathy Robbins (514) and Karen Chute (502) collectively flattened 1,532 sticks.

In single game action, Tami Olsen (543) popped a 221, Gail Carras tossed a season-high 215, Hailey Bundy (554) logged a 209, and both Cameo Irvine and Meretta Johnson booked a 202.

It should be noted women had a great week with a season-high 50-plus women who made this week's column, and that's in contrast to roughly 115 men, which is well below the weekly average.

Anyway, in men's play, Tor Lowry led the scoring charge with a humongous 760 series at Sunset on games of 279, 276 and 214 with 28 total strikes. Lowry is a super talented guy who also excels at playing pool and even has his own instructional website, zerox-billiards.com, and recently also published a book on bowling.

Joseph Graham's 22 strikes were key in a 717 series raising his Industrial League average to 214, Mike Foote tallied a season-high 663, and Tyler Thomas (613-228) put up solid numbers.

In single game play, Tustan Spendlove (627) fired a 277, Kobe Ray (620) racked up a 266, Nick Mace (647) fired 10 strikes in a 257, Randy Brown (606) also logged a 257, and Max Stayrook (646) registered a 255.

Ed Worden's (633) strong week included a 255, Will Hutchinson (611)  pocketed a 235, Utah Tech University student Gage Petersohn (628) fired a 7-bagger in a 234, Bob Hurd racked up a 224, Dave Keller tossed a 223 and Doyle Mouser coasted to a 222.

By the way, I was blown away when picking up scores at Sunset on Saturday after seeing the impressive turnout of young bowlers from states like California, Arizona, Utah, and Nevada who came to compete in a Junior Bowling Tournament with a scholarship prize fund of 3,000 dollars up for grabs. And Sharon Reading merits major kudos as the chief architect and driving force behind making it all happen. She has big plans for future JBT Tournaments and with the palpable passion and energy she's putting behind this, she will make it happen. Stay tuned!!!

Oh, bay-bee!

Perk Matteson picked up the 3-7-10 split ... Linda Handke converted the 4-5-7 ... Pat McLaughlin spared the 6-7-10.
