Ratcliff leads Newton girls to fourth at Fort Dodge

May 15—FORT DODGE — Career-best scores from Addison Hook, Addie Ratcliff and Kayleigh Berndt helped the Newton girls' golf team finish fourth at the Fort Dodge Girls Golf Invitational on Friday.

The Cardinals edged Sioux City Bishop Heelan by two strokes to place fourth overall. Newton shot a 415 and Heelan carded a 417 at the par 71 Fort Dodge Country Club.

Waukee Northwest won the tournament championship with a 343 and Ames turned in a 349 in second. Humboldt was third with a 388.

Mason City (421), Des Moines East (433), Webster City (449) and Fort Dodge (467) completed the nine-team field.

Newton did not have the services of seniors Marin Pettigrew or Ella Price, but Ratcliff turned in a career-best 97 to lead the Cardinals.

Hook shot a career-best 102, Eva Pak fired a 105 and Berndt and Addison Van Maanen had 111s as the final counting scorers.

The 111 for Berndt was a career-best score for 18 holes.

Waukee Northwest's Hannah Pettitt was the meet medalist with a 2-under-par 69. Emerson Motl of Ames was the runner-up medalist with an 81.
