Rattlesnake found coiled beside toilet in Arizona city park. ‘That’s gonna sting’

A rattlesnake was found coiled behind a toilet in a Phoenix park, and the resulting photo ignited an unusual debate on social media.

What’s worse: To see a rattlesnake while sitting on the toilet, or to hear a rattlesnake while sitting on the toilet?

“Can you imagine sitting on the bog then suddenly hear a rattling that sounds very close?” one commenter asked on Facebook.

“I can only imagine seeing a damn rattlesnake looking at you funny with your pants down,” another posted.

It’s not clear how the nearly 3-foot snake was found, but a park ranger reported it to Rattlesnake Solutions, an Arizona-based snake catching service.

Snake wrangler Bryce Anderson found the misplaced viper snuggled against the back of the toilet, like a little Peeping Tom.

“This snake ... likely would’ve rattled at any incoming visitors before they made it to the toilet, notifying them that they were entering what he could only perceive as his perfect little cave hideout,” Anderson told McClatchy News.

“While this may seem like a shocking event in many cases — and two worlds that should never mix — this bathroom was located in the middle of the (drainage area) and had an open layout, allowing easy access for wildlife to flow in and out of.”

The snake was “understandably not too thrilled” at being removed from the shade, which is an important resource in the Arizona desert, he said. It likely would have left on its own at nightfall, when the heat was less threatening, he said.

“I’ve been doing rattlesnake relocation over the course of the last 8 years or so (and) this is the first rattlesnake that I’ve encountered within a bathroom,” Anderson said. “It is a very rare occurrence.”

The snake was released unharmed in a wilderness area, which is standard for Rattlesnake Solutions.

Hundreds have reacted to the company’s Facebook post, including some wondering what it was like from the snake’s perspective. Many offered jokes, calling it a constipation cure and odd type of bidet.

“That’s gonna sting,” Glen Nowak wrote.

“Everyone on earth’s worst nightmare!” Angie Guetschow posted.

“This would be a bad bite,” Danny Zeller said.
